The Bankey Bihari temple located in the holy place Vrindavan is one of the most popular and sacred temples dedicated to Lord Krishna. Here the image of Krishna can be seen in the Tribhunga stance, bent at three places and this is how the name 'Banke Bihari' got connoted. The word 'Banke' means bent and 'Bihari' means the Supreme enjoyer. Haridas Swami, who was a Guru of the most revered singer Tansen, is the one who is known to have established the temple and originally worshipped this image as 'Kunj Bihari' which means 'enjoyer of lakes'. The idol of the Lord is considered to be much older and was worshipped in Nidhivan till 1863.

The temple is surrounded by a divine and peaceful ambiance where Lord Krishna is worshipped as a child. For every festival celebrated in the temple, the deity is dressed up and offered bhog and the temple always bears a festive look decked up with various flowers and lights. The festivities and festive spirit in the temple is unique and the Lord here is said to be in a festive mood always.
