The holy shrine of Vaishno Devi located in the Trikuta mountains of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir is one of the most sacred places in India for Hindus. Every year millions of devotees throng to Vaishno Devi to be blessed by the Holy Mother who is known to be the manifestation of Goddess Adi Shakti. The abode of Goddess Vaishno Devi, is a cave which is situated at an altitude of 5200ft where the natural rock formations are worshipped as the manifestation of the Goddess. This is considered as an auspicious yatra by devotees who undertake the yatra with unwavering faith that Mata Rani (as she is popularly known as) will fulfill all their wishes with her divine blessings. The trek to the holy cave is around 13kms uphill and a spirit of devotion and faith surmounts the long journey as the devotees sing praises and hymns of Goddess Vaishno Devi during the trek. The beauty of nature in the Trikuta mountain with an upsurge of spirituality and positivity is the kind of experience every devotee harbours in their heart during the pilgrimage.
The auspicious nine days of Navratri is celebrated in Vaishno Devi during the months of September and October. This is the time when most pilgrims arrive at Vaisho Devi to worship the Goddess. Many pilgrims prefer to visit Vaishno Devi between March and October as the weather is pleasant at this time. However, the temple is open for visit all throughout the year.
The place called Katra is the base camp for the pilgrims and it is located at around 50 kms away from the Jammu airport. The State Road Transport Corporation buses are also available regualary from Jammu to Katra. The Udhampur Railway Station is the nearest from Katra.
