The Jagannatha temple of Puri still leaves scholars, historians and devotees awestruck due to its antiquity and history. It is said and believed that Jagannatha is perhaps as old as human civilization and it finds its mention in the Puranas and Vedas. The deities Jagannatha, Balabhadra and Subhadra worshipped here attracts attention of historians who are left to contemplate all the more in their efforts of trying to unveil the mystery of the three deities. The temple is a major pilgrimage place and is considered to be one of the char-dham yatras. These char-dham yatras are considered to be holy pilgrimages that Hindus should undertake in their lifetime.
There are many festivals celebrated in the Jagannath temple and millions of devotees attend the festivals every year to be blessed by Lord Jagannath. The major ones are Chandana Yatra, Snana Yatra and Rath Yatra.
The bus stop and railway station are located around 3 kms away from the temple. Travelling by train is convenient and puri has direct train links to many of the major cities. The Bhubaneswar airport is at a distance of around 60 kms from the temple.
